
Hi, I’m Cathie Andrew and yes, I am of Italian descent. I grew up in Chicago and as a child, spent much of my time in my mother’s kitchen watching her cook up delicious authentic Italian recipes for a houseful of family. Even after I married and had children, I still lived right next door for many years, soaking up all her knowledge and expertise
Cooking for me was a creative outlet, a challenge to perfect. And now after 40 years of tasting, refining and experimenting, I have put together my favorite recipes taught to me by my mother. Some of these delicious dishes migrated to America with my Italian grandmothers well over a century ago! As I wrote my Traditional Combo, I embraced, at a deeper level, my ancestry and found it immensely rewarding. I discovered that: For example, on Christmas Eve my mother made "gravy" with Calamari/squid. She made Baccala (codfish salad) and sometimes she baked an eel.
